Why I created this show

I created this podcast for a few reasons, one of which is the noticeable gap in the availability of Portuguese history in English. Whenever I visit a bookstore here in the U.S and explore the European history section, Portugal is either absent or has a tiny section with just a few books. And what do those books usually cover? You guessed it—the age of exploration. So, this show is my small way of addressing that gap.

Don’t get me wrong; the exploration/colonization period is very important and relevant to today’s world. However, it’s only a slice of Portuguese history. Besides wanting to create a show accessible to English speakers, I also aim to shine a light on the often-ignored history of Portugal. Hence, I chose to start the show in 800 B.C.
